According to the Korea Creative Content Agency, the global content market in 2019, covering movies, broadcasting, games, publishing, comics, music, and knowledge information, recorded a total of $2.432 trillion (about 2753 trillion won).

What is noteworthy is that the global game market grew even more during the COVID-19 outbreak, increasing from $131.7 billion in 2019 to $142.9 billion last year, and is expected to soar to $154.8 billion (about 175 trillion won) this year. The cartoon market, centered on webtoons, also decreased slightly from $9 billion in 2019 to $8.6 billion last year, but is expected to recover to $8.9 billion (about 11 trillion won) this year.

As of 2019, sales of Korean content companies amounted to 126.7123 trillion won.

This is not only higher than the petrochemical industry’s 107.6 trillion won in sales as of the same year, but also close to 129.4 trillion won in semiconductor industry sales. Some experts explain that these results have been obtained not only by the impact of COVID-19, but also by diversifying content providers’ product and service groups while expanding their activities to match the 4th industrial revolution era such as Metaverse and NFT.
